Taking cuttings

I have a few Dianthus tropical butterfly and the flower is so lovely I want a lot more for next year. Can I take cuttings from them and if so, how do I do it, I have no idea. If not I will just have to wait for the seeds.

Where they are growing i.e. in pots or in the border can affect the cutting method.
