Hardy Perennial Chrysanthemums

Following on from the 'Show Chrysanthemum' Topic;

I like these plants, i think they make a wonderfull show in the garden at this time of year alongside asters, sedums and autumn foliage. Trouble is i cannot seem to grow them for more than a year in my garden (the behave effectively like annuals). I have tried several times to get them to grow and flower year in year out to no avail. in the soil they get eaten and then rot, and in pots they simply fail to thrive.

My garden is mild and on a pretty average, well drained chalky soil, which in theory should not be a problem for them. So it must be something else.

Can anyone offer any advice or suggest any robust/reliable varieties to try growing please?

Sounds like you might be trying to grow 'pot mums' as opposed to the perennial chrysanthemums.

in the soil they get eaten and then rot, and in pots they simply fail to thrive.

Sorry but I think I will have to say this is down to the grower not the plant/s.
