I have just ordered all my plants for the year from Defland I also have lots of seed that i want to try too.

I have been fafing for ages, getting all confused about what i wanted to grow and if i wanted to grow it from seed or from plant.  Think i am going to be really busy next year!

So I am growing from seed:
Tomatoes
parsnips
lettuces - assortments
spinach
chives
broccoli
sweetcorn
courgette
carrots
Brussels sprouts
peas
spring cabbage
butternut squash
aubergine
pumpkin
french beans - green

and i have ordered from defland:
calabrese
cabbage - duchy f1
beetroot
cauliflower
cucumber
sweet pepper
leeks
onions white and red
strawberry - 2 types
french beans - royalty - purple
runner beans
various herbs for the garden and the allotment
red cabbage
cabbage Stanton f1 bit similar to savoy
swede
curly kale

My potatoes I am taking a chance and getting them from the allotment shop :S

I have 10 bags of compost that need to go onto my beds and i still need to buy some garden lime and some garden sand for the beds.

Hubbys been complaining about the amount of money we have spent so far on "an allotment"  but i see it as in investment in our futures, as long as we look after it, it will look after us.

I agree KL, the initial cost can be a tidy sum if you're starting from scratch but once you have done the starter bits the costs do reduce. Seed swops are great........well you can never use a whole pack of 500 seeds can you? And some types dont have a long shelf life, so its worth doing (if peeps are so inclined of course) And you can save your own seed as well as swapping gluts of veg with other plot holders.

Im sure that when your OH sees how much fruit and veg cost in the shops he will see the financial and health benefits of growing yer own ;D ;D ;D

Good luck with your first season ;)
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

Yes, it certainly sounds like you are going to be busy.  Out of curiosity, how did you decide between seeds or plants?  I ask because many of the things in your plant list are so easy from seed and therefore cheaper I would think.   :)

Awww, are you sure you've killed the garlic and onions?  They can be slow to 'show'.

All the best for your 2009 season and remember we are here to help if we can.   :)
