New Year customs

what sort of things do you do at midnight..when I was a kid, we used to go to the 'Black Bull ' pub for midnight, listen to the ships horns on the mersey, then go around all the rellies, usually getting sherry  :-X off aunties and kisses off everyone.
someone who was dark haired always had to let the new year in, with a bag containing...bread, salt and silver..it was good luck for the next year..anyone have any other strange customs ?
p.s, don't know who will be letting our new year in, we're going to bed early as we're both still feeling manky  ;D

My neck of the woods, it was coal, black bun and Scotch to bring fuel, food and drink for the New year.

My mother used to open the back door just before midnight and kick out the old year then open the the front door at midnight to welcome in the new one.  No drink or food involved as I recall.

We do not let lowlifes into our houses down here. Some of us may have a soire'e in the evening with a bottle of Bolly, Me! I get rat-@rsed and am usually singing my heart out the next morning. Not this year though, we have the lurgy, I reckon I caught it using the same forum as manics ;). I am trying my hardest to kill or cure with my old mate Johnny Walker. He's lost his little red cap so I will have to finish him off.

Anyway have really good time, and a new year. A special kiss for Borlotti. I shall have to take her for a ride on the harley one day, if she fancies being a biker chick.
