that seeds bought for sowing may well be coated with a fungicide? the reason i ask someone on a parrot forum i belongs to has bought some broad bean seeds and wants to sprout them for the birds. I dont think this is a good idea and that she would be better buying dried ones from a health food shop or supermarket etc do you agree?

I would think it would be marked on the packet somewhere. The health food dry ones might have been around for a long time so germination would be suss.

If she has bought loose ones, it would be a gamble, but when I used to get them loose they were always coated in a pink dust.

But if you grew a huge crop of them yourself you could corner the market. With an advert on one of the bird forums.

well it turns out they are seeds meant for growing not for eating so i have advised her to grow her own and feed resulting beans to the birds much better all round, may even get a new member for here lol
thanks ace

dtw

The birds would probably prefer fresh ones anyway.  :D
