Some University done research and found that you can't eat too many eggs. They used to advise no more than 3 a week. Anyway good news because our girls are just coming back into production. Whats folks favourite recipes mine is cheese and egg in the oven. Ovenproof plate smear lightly with butter, Grate loads of nice strong cheese and make a ring on the plate, leaving a space in the middle for your egg. Pop in the oven for 12-15 mins ready when your egg white is just cooked. Slice of bread lovely.

I have always disagreed with the 3 eggs per week advice.  But I think a 5/6 egg omelet is not a good idea.
My favourite snack is like yours but I poach the egg and melt the cheese in a jug in the m/w,  onto hot butter taste and eat. Perhaps add some home made chutney.

Eggs are a killer in this house so we hardly use any.  However, for a treat I do love a soft boiled egg with soldiers.

I eat loads of eggs sometimes four a day ~ I am normal weight and fit and healthy! One of my favourite meals is egg and chips!! ;D

Oh, for a plate of egg and chips.  I gave up eggs a couple of years ago now because of the cholesterol, so would be delighted if it turned out that they were good for you.

Oh and a hard boiled egg sandwich, love those too, enough to make my mouth water.

For years my Doctor and dietitian have told me not to eat more that 3 eggs a week for cholesterol reasons, but on the last visit, I was told I could eat as many eggs as I liked.

Apparently new research has disproved the cholesterol link.

Chips, however are definitely bad for you in many ways.  :'(

So have the Thought Police done a back-track as well? We all know (now) that bread, potatoes & red wine are good for you. Eggs as well? Hurray!

I was brought up in a (post-war) household that went into egg production on a large scale - 100 day-old chicks (that's 100 chicks, not 100 days!) delivered just after New Year, eggs all year and chickens on a regular basis, especially in the run-up to Christmas. Eggs and chickens are still among my favourite things to eat. (And veggies from the allotment, of course!)

But Duke we can afford to be a bit naughty with the chips if eggs are  now good for you  ;D ;D ;D

Presume the tommy sauce is okay with them?

pippy

Duke - have you tried making Jacket wedges instead of chips?!  I find them just as nice :P
Leave only footprints, take only photographs ....

Duke Ellington

Good point Sinbad !! ;)

ooh and might try my eggs with some wedges too pippy I guess the wedges are better for you then chips ?

Thats the theory, Duke ... until they disprove that too!  Anyway - I find it easier as I don't have a chip pan anyway! ;D

something similar to egg and cheese in the oven Marco Pierre white does 'Posh cheese on toast'
fry a piece of bread in butter one side only , cut a whole in middle with pastry ring , pop egg in hole bake for 2 mins then put crumbled stilton on top and finish under the grill.............fab had it sunday  :D :D :D :D :D :D

Trevor_D

That's one of my wife's favourites, lolabelle. And I've being telling her how unhealthy it is!

Mind you, the "frying it in butter" bit might not be 100% healthy....

Or are the Thought Police going to change their minds on that one too?

lolabelle

it an every now and then thing not too often .... :D wonder if you can get 1/2 fat stilton ??  ;D

Trevor_D

I think it's at least 250% full fat.

And if you can buy a half-fat version, it won't be worth eating!

I think the old maxim of "a little bit of what you fancy does you good" still holds true, the problems only start when things are eaten in extreme or the main part of a person's diet is processed food.

I am a regular egg eater being veggievore & my cholestorel is so low the health clinic don't even bother making a note of it.

ps. can't beat old fashioned baked egg custard

Yes I too read that eggs were not as bad for cholesterol as they once thought, who are 'they' anyway ??

I did read this a few years ago too, something about the cholesterol in either the yolk or white is fought by the 'good' cholesterol in the other !

They are the best whole fast food around !!
