You couldn't make it up!

No, I ususally wait until the middle of March and they seem to do ok. The overwintering ones are perking up now and I'll give them their usual dose of fish, blood and bone in a couple of weeks. Seems to work wonders.

No.

Might do shallots soon, but the onions can wait a couple of weeks.

There's plenty more stuff to do yet, you know - at least there is on my plot! Early potatoes, broad beans, peas, lettuce in the frame; mange-tout & sugar snaps to sow, parsnips to chit, pelargonium cuttings to pot on, petunias to sow.........

parsnips to chit,

can someone explain that one? I thought you just sowed seed straight into the ground?

some folks start them this way, by putting them on wet kitchen paper in a take-away plastic box in the airing cupboard. I did it this way last year and they did all sprout.    ;D

(parsnips to chit that is!)

I will be waiting until after this cold spell.  I hope to plant them middle - end of March

Mine went in this week. The chickens pulled half of them out, hope they are not trying to tell me something.

I put some in yesterday that an old timer(that is older than me)lol gave us from his own saved seed. Last year his parsnips were the best on the site. When I asked what variety they were he said it had been that long ago that he bought the first packet that he had forgotten. He  always leaves acouple in at the end of the season for his seed. I'm going to do that this year. At least you know that the seed is fresh. Will post a pic when they start to come up

Shallots and garlic went in 4 weeks ago.

100 each of Red Baron and Sturon sets went into modules in the greenhouse last week, and I've been sowing seed for about 6 weeks now - but my Mammoth failed to germinate again.

i have onions growing from seed they are doing very well but i have not planted them out yet and the ones i get in sets are in modules i like to start them off for a few weeks first before i put them in the ground works a treat
