Came home this morning after quick trip into town and there was a blackbird fledgeling sitting just on the drive next to the hedge...tried to get photo on my phone but he decided to hop off and hide. Later seen in back garden being herded by parents into undergrowth.

Now I know why the local cats were so interested in my hedge.

Got quite a few interested couples in my garden and I've put shelves, pots and 'bedding' around but nothing seems to be happening at all yet.

I have upwards of 15 Blackies with none showing signs of mating, however, numerous fights are taking place so I reckon they are reclaiming their territories.  There has been a large influx of european  blackies this year I have been told with some gardens in my area having over 20 blackbirds in their garden.  I have said before though that the local blackbirds had a bumper breeding season last year. My neighbour noticed a thrush this morning running round with a beakful of worms, so who knows, maybe the thrushes have started to breed.

Roll on spring.

you would think after such a cold winter the wildlife would be less eager to get things going, i have seen signs of thrushes nesting with a song thrush and a mistle thrush building nests in two different trees.
