Pumpkins

I am not very good at labelling things!  I thought pumpkins were yellow/orange but the ones in my allotment are big green ones almost like water melons - are these pumpkins?

Bumble do you have any way you could post a photo? It would maybe help with the identification.  My Pumpkins start yellow, and then turn orange, however there are lots of varieties of squash out there, and many with green skins! Dottie P.

I have two plants and the seed came from the same packet, one pumpkin is traditional orange, the other deep green.  I don't really mind as they are for the kids, and fortunately number one daughter rather fancies a green halloween monster and number one son is covetting the orange one.  Phew, could have been a problem!

Pumpkin carving comp, before and after pics, with maybe a few durings too.  The biggest doesn't have to be the best.  Pictures could be posted say from 25th October through to 5th November...... (half term is the last week of Oct so some of us might be away  ;D)  What do you reakon gang, anyone game??

CRETAINLY that'd be brill; do have to have grown them or can it be one you've bought coz i grew them and sadly they died cos of the high winds in february and soft me didn't know anything about the poor things and they died, never mind there is plenty more time.

Do we allow carving from patterns? Take a look on the web there are loads. We could have best from a pattern.

Are we allowed powertools :o, never tried it, but it could be fun for us boys.

I think it can be from patterns, because none of us will know wether they are from patterns or not! (and those patterns can be  VERY hard to follow.)

I will have to buy a couple for the other family members, because we all like to have a go, but still have 2 that are home grown to play with. (mind you one is so big I may never get it off the plot without a forklift!! :o)

So looks like we have a competition so long as it is OK with Dan!

Power tools? power tools, somebody mention power tools  ;D , right that's it i'm game. Hold on just check.................... chain saw yep, pnumatic drill yep, flame thrower yep, C4 yep. Right all present and correct now where's that pumpkin  ;D ;D ;D .

And if a pattern comes out (and me)after all that it will be a miracle :o ;D .

Yay, we wanna play too!  Don't see why purchased or home growns can't be used, be good if peeps could be honest and say though.  And I think patterns are okay to use, I am so unimagintive, I need all the help I can get.

using powertools - i tried it with a dremel, worked a treat with one of the cutting tools but i did get a fair bit of pumpkin splatter. Have had fun with an engraving tool too!

allegedly YES, I have the same problem (if you can call it that), I was given a pumpkin plant by an Italian guy, I`ve got 11 lovely pumpkins on it, but some started orange, most are green with yellowish markings and one of them is beige!???

all off one plant, any idea what happened or went wrong/right?


as for the power tools idea, I`de never considered that before <insert evil grin>, count me in too :)

Have always struggled to carve very basic faces in pumpkins with a carving knife.  Anyone ever tried using a jigsaw with any success :)?

Love the trebuchet idea, Jeremy ;D ;D ;D  Have to specify weight of pumpkin for firing, just to make competition fair tho' ;)
