Hi, I followed the instructions on my pack and planted my onion sets an inch deep - soil covering them.  Have I made a fatal error, should the tips poke out of the soil?

oh thanks for that - I've planted over 100.

I hope you are fine because ,I my dad and my grand dad always pushed their onion sets just a thumbnail depth in.

They told me if I planted the whole bulb it would rot in the ground.

I have never had any problems following their instructions. Never thought to experiment to see if they had lied to me. Why would they?

if you followed the instructions on the packet I'm sure they'll be fine - unlikely to rot unless the ground is seriously waterlogged. :)
