Hullo,

I have a pack of pumpkin 'snowman' seeds, and would like to grow it on a trellis. It says they reach about 4kg. Is this too heavy to grow on a trellis?

Thanks!

Welcome to A4A Issy, you would need to "net" some if they started to get that big to stop them pulling off the plant... old tights are ideal. Assuming your trellis was strong enough...  :)

Thanks - are jack o'lanterns any lighter? I'm keen to grow pumpkins on the trellis for aesthetic reasons as well as so I can eat them! Sadly I have only ever grown giants before, so am not sure what the optimum weight is for squash trained through trellises - what weight do the fruits start to break off?

I would have thought once you got past good melon size @2kg you would be pushing your luck... Having said that If the structure is strong enough you could do a scaffolding/shelf arrangement and build up the front to support them...
