Can any one give me some advice on Raspberry canes.  They arrived in November and I planted them almost as soon as they arrived, just out of hospital so I did not do a very good job and the labels became detached.

Just over half are doing well having sprouted either at the top or produced a new shoot from the roots, but the other half have done nothing at all.  They do not appear to be dead since the stems are still green inside.  Am I being too impatient?

One variety are doing amazingly and are covered with flowers do I really have to pick them all off.

Hi Digeroo. Sounds like you ordered summer & autumn fruiters. We only have autumn & a few of those still haven't broken through the ground yet. A couple of people on our site have said that not all of theirs took, they were all summer ones. Do you know how old the plants were when you got them. I think that decides as to if the flowers need to be taken of.

The autumn ones are all doing well, I particularly remember putting them at one end.   Also they have slightly thorny stems.   So they are all summer varieties which are a no show.  But they were a selection so some were later types than others,  Since there were 5 of each variety then all the no action ones are all the same varieties.

Pme batch of five canes contained a huge plant with six stems and this is doing extremely well and is covered with flowers it is just that it said to cut the stem down after planting and being ill at the time I did not read the instructions.  If all else fails then read the manual!!! :D :D
