 >:(  Start of rant...

During the night, a rather fat snail decided it would be good idea to get into my mini greenhouse and have a feast on my cabbages, cauliflowers and broccoli seedlings.  Now all I'm left with are substantially less leaves and plenty of stalks.  Whoever invented snails and slugs should be smothered in lettuce leaves and thrown to the snails!

Rant over!   ;D

stop being so specieist!! they are a primary digester of plant material, and convert plant matter into humus. it's not their fault someone put some tasty food out for them!!
;)
You couldn't make it up!

If they're such great plant digesters, why is it that they never seem to gobble up our pernicious weeds, only our lovingly nurtured seedlings, hostas etc.?  ???

They do.  It's just that we don't notice any 'missing' weeds.  :)

HMMMM. The odd bit of grass maybe, but I've never picked a slug or snail off mare's tail, dandelions, bindweed or anything else that's hard to get rid of, have you?  ???

If you had these little beauties it'd be an offence to remove them! (Photo taken last night when I went Roman Snail hunting!)... these are clearly doing their bit to increase the population!

Now don't tell me they are not beautiful...

I just wish I could bring myself to eat them ;D

They love Dandelions, you will always find slugs under the leaves...  :)

i also hate slugs n snails.

anyone use that nematode that is available?? is it worth it.
I have a dog so i am afraid of putting down slug pellets.  are there dog friendly ones these days..

Becca

i have taken to going on night patrols in the greenhouse.  I dunno why they trek in there when there are so much weeds outside haha.
or maybe i just havent found there hiding place. though i am concerned that the compost bin has become a slug making factory as lots of baby slugs about.

sawfish

I find the fact they do so much damage in a really..... really..... slow..... way very sarcastic.

They're horrible slimy sarcastic gastropods of doom!

But they taste nice.

Becca

eww. cant imagine eating them.. i tried once in a paella. didnt like em at all.
so i removed 14 slugs from greenhouse. I think there was less tonight due to the rain outside.  I found about another ten outside the door. i guess they were on their way in.
I used to think they didnt like tomatoes but have few have eaten tomato stems. - hopefully the tomatoes will just root higher now( i covered the half eaten stem with soil ) .

OllieC

Just to clarify - you're looking at up to 6 months in prison for playing golf with the ones in the photo above... and I still think they're beautiful!
