I'm watching the results coming in on this.  You hear the returning officer quote all the votes cast for each party and the number of spoiled ballot papers.  All the media coverage appears to be showing the totals for the each party but not a total for spoiled papers.

I wonder how many spoiled papers there have been overall in this election.

I'm watching them too.

I heard in one of the results up North somewhere had 13 odd thousand and another area only had 3 thousand and something of spoilt papers.  Depends on the officer reading the results out I think.  Like one guy gave the results but never said what party they were.

These results aren't quite like our general election though

That's what prompted my thread Sinbad, I saw those figures.

I reckon they should add them to their graphs - would be very interesting!

I don't consider it a wasted vote - always support my suffragette ladies - but a statement none the less.

While I don't agree with them UKIP did well... without fringe anti EU groups they would have done better... and while on the fringe the less said about THAT party that won two seats the better...  :-X

I don't think anybody did very well.  Other parties, Tories, LibDem, UKIP/BNP etc all remained static.  What happened is that the Labour vote haemorrhaged and people stayed at home and sat on their hands.  The collapse in the Labour vote meant that other parties percentage shares of the smaller vote went up without them gaining any more votes - a fact that should really worry Cameron in the present climate.  Thankfully, there seems to be no appetite for the tories, people are just very unhappy with what has happened over the past twelve months and more recently over the past 4 weeks.

Don't worry everyone, I have just read that Alan Johnson says the Labour Party just need to listen to us all and then it will be all sorted out [Don't know whether to put a laughing or crying emoticon there]

Your right, he is totally wrong.  It does not matter how much listening or getting it right or wrong they do.  Most of the British public are far too thick to make and informed judgement and the usual scare tactics about taxes will win the day because nobody will remember the shocking state that the Tories got us into.  Meanwhile we are beginning to emerge from a very deep but relatively short recession caused by world events and even the banks are beginning to pay money back - which will hopefully will begin to dampen the tax scares.

It doesn't matter how angry people were - sitting on their arses or spoiling their voting slip has, in some areas, led directly to the BNP gaining power for their repulsive agenda. Shame on them all. The BNP now get money from us all (via Europe) to promote their racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic filth.

Well said OllieC ! I normally have the radio on when I'm at home working, but yesterday I couldn't bare to listen to that wassack (sp). Its a grim business

I think it's a sad reflection on this country when, the day after the celebrations for the 65th anniversary of D-Day, the country sends two nazies to represent us as MEPs.

It is a very, very sad day, but I think it reflects  the disaffection of the electorate with this government's lack of any control over the immigrant (whether legal or illegal) problem.

My son came home from school and said one of the kids from a family fairly newly arrived from Pakistan mentioned their parents had voted BNP! Possibly because they didn't understand what it meant and were trying to be 'British'!

Perhaps it's a good lesson to voters to be a bit more careful next time.

OllieC

I shouldn't laugh, Kea... because it's not funny...

Kea

No it's not I was just  :o

I don't know if my son enlightened them....I suspect he did as kindly as possible.
