Courgettes

Hi what is the best way to protect courgettes from lying on soil just noticed some that are touching soil have started to rot

I've put straw under mine.  Has added benefit of trapping moisture in the soil.  Slugs don't like the straw apparently but I'll have to see to believe as we've ninja slugs in Leeds.
