i have a new piece of ground that i would like to plant out cabbage and cauli on tomorrow
(there is no where else to put them)

what will i do to the ground before i plant them?

it has been covered for about 2 years with thick black plastic so the soil will be pretty dead i think
oh and no chemicals
i'm kind of at a loss what to do as the plants need to go out

Just dig a planting hole and bung a bit of lime in the bottom, puddle in and net...  :)

Sparkly

Having done what Saddad said above in the same situation as you a few years ago we had great caulis! Never managed to get them as good since!

saddad, so i dont even have to dig the whole bed?

and no feed/manure etc?

If you make a decent hole you can avoid digging the whole bed.. they like it firm. Manure and lime don't mix... but if you put lime in the hole you can top dress the bed afterwards... as there will be several inches of soil between them...  :)
