I have only recently fallen in love with it and sowed lots in modules and planted them out. Pleased to say that they have all done really well, but now they seem so big that I wonder if I planted them out too early. If so, will they survive? They are about 2 feet tall now  :-\

I'll put you out of your misery  ;)

Purple sprouting broccoli - simples!!  :)

Brilliant stuff, there are early and late varieties, some of mine have been slugged already  >:( but others say I can still sow...personally I thought I was a bit late, but hey, what do I have to lose?).  These aren't the green broccoli that you buy in supermarkets (that's calabrese), but a UK friendly hardier type that will see you through the months of winter when not a lot else is around, and 10x more taste than the imported stuff.

Sow and enjoy  ;)

Purple Sprouting Broccoli. I had about a dozen plants last year, I was eating it for weeks. And the size is fine so far, mine grew to about 4 foot when it started sprouting.
Tony.

Sow it, grow it, eat it.

Sally A I've got a PSB that you can sow in June. I think it's Red Arrow. There is also a purple one called Wok Brokk & with continuous sowings it will crop until December. It's a T&M seed.

Thanks grannyjanny, I'm a bit poo at brassicas, despite being on a clayey soil, they tend to get shoved in after other crops have gone over.  75% of my sprouts seem to blow (don't panic, I still use the blown sprouts as greens).

But this year, I am determined to get some overwintering/early spring PSB on my plate, along with my first attempt/virgin veg of 2009/10 Rainbow Swiss Chard. I know from asking around I will either love this or hate it with a vengeance......no better way than to try it........OH hates my selection of greens, but it's amazing how a good steely glare helps him digest the lot  ;)
