My cherry tree is busting with fruit this year and I've picked 20lb already. ;D

Normally the birds get most and I get the pickings (it's a proper big tree - too tall to net) - this year the birds seem to have gone
Im happy to have the fruit - making some jelly at the moment - but what has happened to the birds?

I have been giving them away by the bagful! Picked some more today.  In all there must have been over 100lb on the tree!

lorna - if you were around you'd be welcome to some!  Picked another 5 lb last night in half an hour.  I am lost as to what to what them all so I've been giving them away to friends and fellow plot holders..

manicscousers

spiced cherry jam with orange, put them in a rumtopf for Christmas, cook them and freeze for cherry pie, I've even got a recipe for bottling them if you've no freezer space  ;D

BarriedaleNick

Spiced Cherry Jam with orange sounds good!
Just bought a cherry stoner to ease the processing...

Some have made there way to Swindon.  I'm sure its the same gang of starlings that come every year or there descendants.  The trouble is they eat them before there even any where near the ripe stage.  2 crumbles was all we got this year.
So next year we're going to net the tree's.  I don't mind sharing, but they always get the lions share of 3 tree's.
Yours look Delicious, enjoy !!  Those stoners are great for getting the stones out of olives as well.
Manicscousers please may I have a copy of your recipe for bottling ?  I no I don't have any this year but hope springs eternal. ( always the optimist ;D )

manicscousers

will post it in recipes for you  :)

BarriedaleNick
