On Tuesday morning (as I mentioned on another thread) I got up to find my shed and garage had been broken into.

Thursday morning I opened my freezer door to get the chops out and half a gallon of water poured out - everything inside had thawed to mush and was promptly consigned to the dustbin.  My daughter-in-law called and took away the fridge contents to look after, and off I went to Comet, where I explained my predicament, and purchased a replacement fridge frezer on the express condition (written on the receipt) that it would be delivered yesterday morning.

Yesterday morning Comet telephoned and said that it would be with me by noon, and my d-i-l returned the contents of the fridge in readiness.  It duly arrived, and the two kind deliverymen wheeled it into the kitchen, spent 10 minutes carefully unwrapping it, and then said "It`s broken.  Someone`s dropped it on the corner.  The case is broken. It`ll have to go back".

However, after some rather heated discussion and a `phone call back to base the damaged article was propped up on several pieces of hardboard and plugged in, and the contents of my old fridge installed as a temporary measure., and half an hour ago I received another phone call from Comet to inform me that a new one will be delivered before 12 noon tomorrow (Sunday) and the damaged one removed.

Now that is REAL customer service.  And when I checked our old bank statements I discovered that the freezer which has just died was bought from Comet in 1985, and was their own brand.

My experience of Comet is not so nice, it took me about 7 months of fighting to get the money back for my faulty TV...they didn't want to give me anything at first claiming it could be repaired for sometime even though their own engineer said it couldn't and by the time they agreed to replace the model had changed SLIGHTLY and they wanted me to pay another £100 for the new model which was mainly just a different colour the specs were the same refused to give my money back. It cost me a lot in phonecalls and letters...eventually i got my money back can't remember how now...popped off to Sainsbury's and bought the new model for cheaper than the old one!
I've never bought anything there since and have come across many people who have had a similar experience.
Though i do go in to check out things I am thinking of buying online elsewhere.

The most amazing thing about this story is that you've got bank statements going back to 1985! Think how much shredded paper for the compost bin they could make! ;D

Actually they go back to 1957.  It would take me a week to shred them all and it`s much easier just to ignore them and keep adding to the pile.  Besides, all that red ink would probably poison my compost.
