If they have bulbed they can be pickled... not sure about the straight types but I bet they can too...  :)

What is the normal size for your spring onions,

As we can,t see them and you can, and if you are happy about picking them then pick them. the ones that not lifted will still grow on

As long as they're green they're fine.

I've got to say that spring onions (along with spinach and Aquadulce Claudia broad beans) have been this spring's great failure for me.  :-[

Next year I shall rely on Welsh onions, and skip over spring onions.

Davy I will post a picture of them tomorrow so you can see what I am talking about.

Hi Davy these are my spring onions. As you can see there is 1 normal size and the other ones are a "bit" bigger.  You can see my thumb next to one of them.
Going to try pickling them. Nothing to lose I suppose.

thifasmom

my red spring onions did that last year, they were really strong made my eyes water terribly. they also stood well through out the winter.

There is nothing wrong with them Chippy some would be over the moon to get a result like that. You will always get some that dont develop at the same pace as others just leave them to grow on.

Chippy Queen, well done! Those remind me of the spring onions that were sold in the cypriot (turkish / greek) shops in N London. I loved them and have been trying to find a variety so I can grow them here!

manicscousers

purplette grow like that, we left one in and it grew to the size of a
good sized big onion  :)

Just looked as my seed packet and they are -----------------ISHIKURA!!
Maybe I have just left them in the ground too long, Not too sure as this is my 1st year on the lottie.
