Bought fifty Gladiolas bulbs, planted ...  all came up and flowered ..... :D

Can someone tell which is the back and which is the front ?     ----

All but three are facing the fence !!    :o

Why dont they mark the bulbs ---   you know, front and back ? !! ???

Its a shame isnt it but they are like sunflowers in that they face the sun.

I'd like the duds to be labeled to then goodbye to all the gaps!

When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Hi Flossy.
The only way you can tell which way a gladiolus is going to flower is when it sends up its flower spike, the tip of the spike leans towards the way its going to flower,
Afraid no other way it's just a guessing game when you plant the corms.

Mine all seem to be yellow... irrespective of what we plant...  :-\

Mine are planted in tubs by a south facing wall, and they all face south, until the wind blows and then they face all directions, but mainly down.
One year I had a broken one that I just ploped in a vase of water and sat it in the kitchen mostly in the shade, a few days later the top had grown into a Z shape as it tried to chase a small slither of sun.

The Maths will tell you that this is a strange problem.
Most will face the light and if there was a front/back etc then you would expect all 50 to face in different directions if planted randomly.
47 one way and 3 the other suggests that the 3 were somewhat shade by there neighbours and turned to the best light source.
