Asparagus

Bought some asparagus plants from Morrison's last night, only £1, do i need a separate bed, as i understand you can't pick them the first year, if so how big and are they OK growing in compost?

you would need a seperate bed for them ,somewhere permanent ( they last bout 20 yrs ).Are they 1 or 2 yr old crowns ? plant at least 18" apart. If you "search" asparagus there is plenty of info .
