Check for Asparagus Beetle

Just to let you know that we're inundated with the little blighters already. Keep an eye out!

Yep, I've got them on mine in London too!  I spotted them last night.

Does anyone know of a way of getting rid of them organically except for just picking them off, both beetle and any eggs I find?

That's the only way I've found - the job becomes increasingly unpleasant as the goo builds up on your hands, doesn't it! Trouble is, a couple of other plotholders have already let theirs grow into ferns & they're covered, so even when I've squashed all of my own ones, I get a new batch by the next day.

There aren't many asparagus growers on our lotties but I must have squished over 100 this weekend... I think they are on "fern" in house gardens for flower arranging too....  :-X

I found a couple of the litttle blighters today so I know their mates are just waiting for the call....."party on plot 21" Grrrrr

Part solution when they get to fern size. Put newspaper down between the rows and give the ferns a good shake from side to side for a minute or two. Squash beetles on the paper or simply scrunch up the paper and remove.

I spent 10 minutes yesterday squashing the little sods - I'll now have to wait for the egs to hatch and get the bug gun out (about the only time it's used)
