Digeroo, I think you have got the right idea planting that broccoli amongst your peas or anything over and harvested. Your old pea plants should be just left there to compost down naturally, as Bill Mollison says, "You haven't got a slug problem, you've got to little vegetation".

Actually I have a huge amount of vegetation.  My allotment is full to the brim with plants.  The paths are getting narrower.    The problem with slugs is that they are selective.  They do not like fat hen or milk thistle very much and do not touch stiningin netttes and go straight for my Dwarf french beans.  I know they do not like some varieties so it is finding the right ones.  I do have one at the moment they like very much but it also produces very nice beans.    I recently sowed two varieties of runner beans and they completely hoovered off one.
