My suede have popped up above ground for several weeks now. Did they need to be covered up or are they ok to be exposed? I'm panicking because this is my very first time growing veggies and I just heard a rumour that suede should be covered..... I've got 2 full patches full of them  :-\

and when they grow to an enormous size when is it the right time for digging them up?

(Jeannine I think Lilyjean said she lives near Ipswich? )

I have a healthy crop of swede for the first time this year. They were covered when little but are uncovered now. I intend to lift the first one fairly soon because I don't want them to get too big and wooden or bolt but I'm not quite sure how I am going to store them.

I reckon they take about 20 weeks or more from sowing.

Yes they Do Grow (swell) above ground

Hi lilyjean I never covered mine,as they grow they look rather spindly and seem to flop over as you thin them out but they soon fatten up and sit above ground, and as for digging them up follow the rule of thumb how big do you want them compare them to the supermarket ones that should give you some idea on size

I should have known how to spell the word as I come from Suffolk......oooo arrrrrgh!!!!!

Well, after reading your lovely comments I think I might just pull one out today   :) mmmm yum!
