Lidls Apple trees

Here is a picture of one of my Lidls fruit trees purchased winter of 2008 year.  I planted them in a double cordon row courtesy of Deb P's advice. They cost at the time £2.98 each. This one has done really well. You can just see next to it a pear tree which has only produced one pear :'( My other pear tree on this frame hasn't produced any *yet*.  All the other fruit trees have produced some fruit .

I keep looking at Lidl's trees, but can never find out what the rootstock is.  Did yours come with this information?

Someone on another gardening web site found out this information and was told by Lidl that the trees are all dwarf stock. He did give me the number but I dont have to hand right now. Mind you cordons are easy to keep in check so for me the type wasn't so important.  I have already had to nip out the growing tip.

I have four Lidl trees also bought in 2008. They are heavily covered in apples that bear no resemblance to the labels, unless for example there is a new bright red, small and perfectly round Bramley! a large Braeburn looking Granny Smith, and a neat red-blushed green Coxes Orange Pippin. The fourth is Elstar which may be right.

For just under £12:00 I cannot complain.

I have several Lidl trees I bought in 2008 and they are also well laden with fruit.  There is a very delicious bright red granny smith.  A bramley with very tasty blush colour fruit, no need to cook and a golden delicious with small bright red fruit.   They are all very tasty. 

My only frustration is not knowing what varieties they actually are.  I think one might be a laxton superb.

Allaboutliverpool--I was so happy with the price too I bought 8 trees for about £24 I really couldn't complain either ;D.
Digeroo--My bramley doesn't look like a Bramley but it tastes like one. !!

We too were delighted with Lidl fruit trees. Seven assorted apples, pears & plums, £28.
We've planted them on an oblique cordon, another thank you for Deb P. We'll get some more when they're next in stock. I'm sure I'll get the info on here ;).

There is an old saying that 'you plant pears for your heirs', so it might be a while before you get a 'good' crop from the Lidl whips.

I think the problem mentioned about the trees you bought, not being what you thought you bought is irritating, insofar as you don't know what varieties they are.  You may well be very happy with them, but it would be helpfulto know what they are.  The RHS does a fruit identification scheme for members, but it could be more expensive than the trees/ ::) ;D

Did anyone buy the Lidl potted apple/plum/cherry trees last Spring? I bought a Jonagold, a Cox's orange pippin and a Stella cherry (as did my friend). The two apple trees have put on growth but the cherry had hardly any roots and soon gave up the ghost (my friend's one did too!) I'm hoping the Jonagold turns out to be something else otherwise I'll have to buy another apple tree as the JG is a triploid.

Glad all the apples are doing so well, my oblique cordon pears fruited lightly for the first time last year (two years after planting) and are covered in fruit this year, so hopefully you won't have long to wait! ;D

I bought 2 cherries to. 1 of those died as well. however the plums and apples are doing great
