The allotments for all site is a good British site for people in the UK

There are loads of American sites but we do (for the most part) embrace the conditions and problems which are British here.

Yes I know a few expats and those who have emigrated or moved abroad  and are home sick join in from time to time  but this site is best suited for the people who live in the British Isles.

Contributors some times fail to tell us they are not in the UK and often readers believe that the contributors they refer to are local. It can cause confusion.

Different parts of the world offer different growing conditions.

I, for one, would rather the site stayed as a UK only site

I'll bow out then. Sorry for causing confusion. I've enjoyed getting to know some of you and have learned much along the way from
your garden wisdom.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo  ;D

PH this thread was about something different entirely! As it turned out lots of people
checked the site Lorna originally mentioned - the power of the web and the nosiness of its users  ;) is remarkable ;D. Totally different things to which you are dealing with - and I for one don't agree with!

Nor do I 1066. After all this is NOT just a gardening sight as we demonstrate so often in times of need.

I couldn't disagree more with PH. This site is & always has been for anyone that wishes to come along & play by the rules. There are a couple of grumps that stop the site from being as good as it could (and frankly, that's why I'm not around much these days).

So ignore any negativity & hang around, GA. I for one have enjoyed your different perspective.

PH sweetie, may I remind you that www stands for world wide web and allotments For ALL means just that!!
Personally I enjoy the contributions we get from all over the world. The Internet has made the world a small place and gives us a unique opportunity to step out of our own back yards ( woops American influence there.)
If you are too xenophobic to appreciate that maybe you should stick to gardening.

Annie, I understand your reaction, but , as you know, most of us on here fully welcome not only your contributions but those from all corners of the world, all nationalities all colours and all creeds. We don't care about sexual orientation either!!

I have noticed recently that PH's posts have been becoming increasingly acerbic and confrontational. Even Ace commented on it. Maybe there's something going on in her life we don't know about? Anyway please ignore. One person does not speak for all.

GrannieAnnie - please stay with us! I enjoy your posts - and those from contributors we have in Holland, France, Belgium and Canada to name but a few.

It's sad to think that one person's unpleasant comments could cause offence to such valued contributors.

Can't agree with you on this PH, I love the ethos of this site and for me the site title says it all. Members are from all over and all walks of life and all have a place in making A4A what it is. So please don't go GA or any of our other international members, I for one love hearing how things are going, meeting new people and reading how things are done around the world as well as in the UK.

All the other contributors to this thread have stuck to debating the point not the person. Namecalling and gratuitous speculation about a posters personal circumstances isnt helpful. They expressed an opinion. Its just an opinion. It doesnt change anything about how the forum works or who can be members. Disagree with the opinion but leave the poster alone.

betula

A4A is much better than it was as at one time the cliques were a problem and little groups were formed to try to make life a misery for someone who dared to have a different opinion.Apart from the obvious twits we get on here who seem to be able to get away with anything and still get back on it is much better.

Sometimes if you dare to speak your mind a whole lot will jump on you as it is easy for them to do so,I have learned to ignore it and carry on as usual.

If you read about internet bullying it will open your eyes.

I don't think people should leave because someone disagrees with them there will be plenty that will agree and leave it at that.

I think there are some truly wonderful people on here but also we have plenty of not so wonderful, lets be real about this.

Bugloss2009

please don't go GA or anyone else

I tried Allotments4TheChosenFew and it was awful

OK, I'm back and promise I will try to develop a tougher hide. I read that comment after returning home from a trip feeling very out of sorts with humanity and it was the little straw that broke the camel's back. Thank you for the comments and PM's. You are great folks.

and I actually like that moment of blind panic when you post a picture of some hideous pest and i've forgotten it's an American one

As in our normal lives, we do not always agree with everyones thoughts and ideas, but i do think that everyone is entitled to free speech, sometimes, someone could post something and because we cannot see someones face, hear someones voice, it could be taken as the opposite of what they meant, enough said on this matter, i do hope that we can get over this quite tense thing that seems to be happening at the moment.

In answer to the original post, i undersand that sometimes people can get confused if a poster does not state whereabouts they come from, this does not only cover countries from abroad (and i for one would not like to lose our posters from europe, canada, america and australasia as it adds a diferent perspective and personally i enjoy the posts) but also it covers what part of the uk we are in, a person who has an allotment in the north of scotland has a completely different growing situation to a person in cornwall.

So can we please just all come together, acknowledge and enjoy our differences and get back to being the supportive forum of our allotments and our lives.

I do hope that it is not too much of a rant, but i have been watching lately and been feeling a little uncomfortable in what i see.

Digeroo

I also enjoy hearing from further a field.  With this years 4 plus months of drought I certainly did not share growing conditions with those on the western side of Britain who had higher than average rainfall.

I have posted on a couple of US forums and found them to be very welcoming.  Some threads are more relevant than others.

We did have a regular member from Denmark who got driven away by constant negative comments - such a pity.
