Giant Pumkin Not Ripe yet!!

Hi Guys

Can someone offer me some advice on Giant Pumpkins please?

My son has a giant pumpkim which is green and has some orange patches on it.  Now do I cut it from the plant and allow it to ripen or leave it attached?
