It's our Giant Pumpkin/Marrow day on Sunday....

....and I don't stand a chance this year!

I can't work out why I let this happen but I somehow managed to leave SIX pumpkins to develop on ONE plant!  I'd estimate they are each around 60 pounds so nowhere near big enough.

My marrow (overgrown courgette which we allow because it's only a fun competition) is only average.

I'll post results on Sunday.

I will never win the best plot competition again - I'm much too untidy and apart from anything else, instead of gardening I spend quite a lot of time talking!

I picked all my SIX pumpkins today ready to take them to be weighed tomorrow

Only 3 will be weighed though because I've given the other 3 away.

Someone has grown a massive one and unless there are others which have been hidden, he is going to win.  Photos tomorrow.

No, I didn't give them the baby oil treatment  ;) just washed the dirt off for the photo.

It makes me wonder what would have happened if I'd removed all except one.   :o

My own weighed 63, 74 and 76 pounds.  Only 100 pounds less than last year!

I had the surprise of my life when Galina introduced herself yesterday.  I have 'known' her for quite a few years now but we have never met before.  It was such a shame that I was so busy collecting rents and dealing with new plotholders that I couldn't spend any time with her.

I'm glad you enjoyed your visit Galina, hope you will come back again when things are less hectic!

So that was you Shirlton! :)  Oh I wish.  Largest I ever had was probably 30 odd pounds, but I have never grown any exhibition ones. 

I was bowled over how friendly everybody was to a complete stranger, you and Tony, Teresinha and Mike, Dave, Betty of course and so many others that spoke to me. said hello, nodded or smiled.

The pumpkins were amazing and the allotments were almost all well tended and there were many interesting plants to see.   I had a great time.  Thanks for having me.

just caught up with this thread - well done all. But my question is how did you cut the pumpkin? I'm thinking maybe a saw?
