I am trying to do some research before getting into poultry for the first time. Primarily for eggs, but we will eat them when the time comes. We have quite a lot of space, but I want to start with  for perhaps 4 or 5 birds, and I would ideally like to mix chickens and ducks in the same enclosure (they wont be fully free range) and house. Will this work, if they are all purchased as POL at the same time? I am thinking 3 chickens and 1 or 2 ducks?

I used to keep hens and ducks, but they had there own hutches, the chickens roost and crap on the ducks on the floor otherwise. Plus the ducks need plenty of bedding on the floor which the chickens will soon rake out. You will also need loads of room as ducks will puddle up the ground very quickly. Khaki cambells are good for an egg a day, but wash the eggs in very clean water and never put duck eggs in the fridge as the shells are very porous and the dirt and germs will draw inside the shell as they cool.
