Have we got anybody else here who by any chance would be growing this sort of 'blackcurrant'...I've got one but I would love to swap 'notes' and how you get on with your bush and crop?
And no..I'm not talking about hybrid currant..it is truly a variety of blackcurrant but the berries are not 'black'.

No?...oh well ::) I would have been interested to know what sort of yields they've been getting...
I wasn't really suprised that there have not been any replys..I've not seen it sold in UK..but maybe there is other growers..all these odd things seem to be poping up here//
I bought my bush few years ago now..but as I've had to move it around lottie it has never had chance yet to perform properly.
But this summer must be the year that I can have more than just taste ;)..it has had chance now to sit in same spot for a while and put some growth on...roll on summer..

Yes..that's the one..
I suppose they do look bit like it but they do not have the 'hairs' like gooseberry does.
They look just like normal blackcurrants..part from not being 'black' ::)..obviously..hence greencurrant ;D
Flavour is bit different..more mellow, not so strong flavoured and bit more sweeter. Really nice to eat straight from the bush.

Sounds interesting. I'd guess that birds would take longer to find them.

What fruit I have had so far birds haven't been interested..not that I have any problems with other currants..
I grow quite lot of them, never net any bushes..some years they do eat lot and others they don't touch any. Either way I always seem to have left plenty.
I was originally interested the green variety because at the time it was advertised in Finnish papers how nice it was as 'eater' or pureed and used as green 'ice cream sauce' ::)..well photo made me drool and I had to get hold of one.
10yrs ago I went to holiday to Finland..bough bush from nursery..asked to borrow secateurs on till...chopped it in to a stump..shook compost off from root ball..and shoved it into a bag..
Girl on till was horrified ;D..and I left the mess, pots, cuttings and all to them ;D ;D..few customers were baffled,,,but I had to get it into aeroplane and they didn't sell little bushes ;D ;D
I've done similar thing to a 6 apple trees :o..but that's another story ;D ;D

Oh, I'm planning to root some cuttings..eventually..if there is interest ;)

Hi Goodlife

I've seen seeds for these on American web-sites & was thinking of ordering some. Could I ask where you bought your bush from?

I bought my bush from Finland..I've heard some seeds been sold but they don't all come true as it's parent varieties are all 'normal' black ones. Some amount of the seed may come 'true' in colour..but not on all differences..like flavour.
So only way to produce true to type is by cuttings. There is only one named varity available..Vertti.
Bush itself grows to very upright shape and mature plant should be able to produce upto a bucketfull of berries..but I'm far from that yet ::)...all the chopping and moving it about hasn't been kind to it. But now it has permanent position and it will be able to romp away.
