Does anyone know if you can grow magnolia from seed?

Yes... but I'm not sure you would get a similar specimen to the one you took the seed from, and it would be quite a wait before you knew..

Goodness, that would require dedication, if you consider how long it takes a magnolia (many, anyway) you buy as a plant to actually flower!

Yes but magnolia seeds need a long period of chilling (stratification) before they will germinate - a lot of tree seeds need this.

With seeds like that, you plant them in sutumn, and hope they come up the following year. If not, you hope for the year after that. Very often, results depend on fresh seed, but I don't know about Magnolias.
