Right got that off my chest!!

Why does everything we watch have to end up like "X FACTOR" >:(

I hate the new format!!
I hate contestants crying over cooking!! (if i did that over every meal I have cooked over the years I would have to be locked away)
I hated John Torrode playing the hard nosed chef!!
All that fuss last night to knock out two contestants!!

Now I am off to the doctors to get my hormones checked :P

I did wonder about how much money had been spent on those kitchens given the rapidly reducing numbers of contestants and the few occasions they will actually cook there.  However I quite like the new format.

It's far more testing and given the number of previous finalists who've gone on to have professional careers in cooking it needs to be to distinguish the wheat from the chaff.  I believe the original format with Lloyd Grossman was designed to show that the British can actually cook .    Home cooking has come on by leaps and bounds since he started and many of those winners went on to professional careers in cooking or writing about food.   This new format is simply making the whole thing geared to professionalism from the start.

If you want to watch cosy home cooking then watch the Hairy Bikers' Mum Knows best.    That's about every day cooking without tears.

Agree, I find myself getting annoyed by it. Still enjoyable but bit ott. Of course it has to be challenging, and for good reason like Obbelix says. Its just the crying and sob stories just arent needed, and seeing someone blubbing away every 10 minutes isnt enjoyable to watch. How they try and build suspense is hysterical imo, its like watching a episode of 24 at times  ;D

Bugloss2009

you've made me want to  watch it  ???

It is really truely awful now.  The crying contestants, sniveling families, John and Greg exchanging looks for the camera...  A good programme ruined imo.

Now if anyone here likes decent telly The Killing on BBC4 is the best thing on in years.  It is Danish with subtitles (which translates to most as about as interesting as watching paint dry), back episodes on i-player - give it a go.

I`m not keen on the new format either, what`s it going to be next everyone paired up and joined at the hip by cojoined aprons, like the American show? If it ain`t broke, don`t fix it is what I say. Nothing wrong with old format. :'( :'( ;D

Not seen it yet but don't like the sound of it.

Love x factor but get annoyed with too much emotion and to do it over a bit of cooking sounds daft to me.

My old man crys regular over my meals.....don't understand it myself  :)

The only problem, with that is that the BBC's mantra is 'If it aint broke, break it.'  Which is precisely what they've done with Masterchef.

I wish someone would teach Greg how to use a spoon.  He stuffs it in like a two year old.

Tin Shed

I can't get over how good the contestants have to be now. In the past series you could really see how they were developing, now some seem to be almost too good.

Slightly off topic, but I agree with Cocopops about The Killing. Its brilliant - roll on 9pm tonight :D

pumkinlover

Still off topic- sorry- but the Killing is brilliant, got used to sub-titles with Wallender. Now find it adds rather than detracts.

Very true.

It was my favourite TV programme at one time but at the moment I am not so sure about the set up.   Too many cooks to start off.  I like trying to choose who may win so you get used to the contestants as the week goes on, then you got another new lot of contestants the following week.  I preferred that.  Time will tell, maybe it will come together as the weeks go on.  I hope they don't change Michel Roux programme as well, if there is to be abother series.  I do enjoy watching him as well.   ;D

cocopops

Tin Shed and Pumpkinlover - I'm really glad I found others on this site that love The Killing.  It is rather addictive, never though I would get into something like this.  For anyone who had time on their hands it should still be on BBC4 i-player  ;D ;D ;D

We have been watching the Cookery School programme on Channel 4 at 2.10p.m. weekdays.  Whilst I accept that most people will be at work at this time, and it might be worth recording.

When it was first advertised it was derided as a Masterchef spin-off, but it's not.
