Thanks for all the tips and advice
Tomataoda I live in a place called Shirley, about six miles from Birmingham.
I was wondering if anyone has a Mantis on my allotment site, perhaps if so perhaps they would let me have a demo. I have not seen anyone using one,  but I may put a little note on the notice board , I will also think of all the things that have been said on the posts.

Glad you have some help.  My neibour used his rotovator on mine to start me off and it is a great help. Like SMP1704  said a Mantis is great on  wel cultivated soil. I am about a mile from Cadburys factory by the way.

Thanks to you all, I am looking forward to spring. I am getting a long handled potatoe  planter  to make things a little easer for me ,because I cant bend very well yet. also I am getting a Chillington hoe. is this last one a good buy do you think.

Definitely. I use one to skim off annual weeds, and to get shallow-rooted stuff like nettles out.

Thank you I will buy one now.
