Hedge trimmer

Even though I use it twice a year, the darn thing keeps cutting out due to me chopping through the cable. :-[
I have tried to hold it over my shoulder, keep the cable behind me, or not to swing the thing from side to side.  :-\
Trouble is that the cable is getting shorter by the year, I started out with a full length cable but in time I have reduced it by half. :(
Any tips on using the electric cable type as I use the petrol type in work that I do.
Looks as if I might have to invest in a petrol one as these do not have a long cable to worry about. :o

you can joint the cable using a proper waterproof jointing thing, i have a cable about 100m long on mine now :D



Screwfix/B&Q sell em, Waterproof Cable Joint IP67, about £8 each

Ialso bought something similar to one of these, saves balancing ona pair of steps to do the top and the hard to reach bits

I've got a Ryobi cordless hedgetrimmer,in their One+ range and it's OK... thirsty on batteries (but I have plenty) and it won't cope with the really thick stuff.... if I needed it (I have no hedges at my new place) then I'd get the Expand-It attachment for my strimmer (also Ryobi)

If I did that to every one of the cuts I made in the cable, I think that the weight of the cable would exceed the weight of the unit. ;D
Good idea for the joint though.
Chrisscross1966, I would choose an interchangeable unit, but I have not much use for this. So I might just borrow a clipper from the lads in our depot once every six months to square up the hedge before it gets laid. ;)
