Heritage tomato seeds,principe borghese,black truffle

Hi all,have any members tried growing the above toms please share your experiences.I have been away to barmouth for a few days and went to a market and i happened to stumble on a trader selling the seeds so a packet of each have been added to my collection, I also puchased a packet of red pak choi (F1 ruby) and some bulls horn sweet pepper (marconi red).

I grew black truffle last yeaf, nice taste, very fleshy, had atendancy to split BUT that may have been erratic watering.

Hmm..growing experience..well grow them just like you would grow any other tomato..but both of those are better in greenhouse..outdoors they would not have much chance unless we would happen to get that long dreaded indian summer with hose pipe ban and all that sweating ::)..fat chance... ::)
Like all 'black' tomatoes..the colour is most intensive more sun they get..so make sure the fruit is not left lurking under the leaves in shade ;)

I went to Chateau La Bourdaisaière, Indre et Loire.  They have the French National Tomato Collection. About 600 types! Bought Association Kokopelli seeds:  grown in unheated greenhouse in Kent UK
Caro Rich - gold.med size.  VG taste, light crop as it ripened late.
Rose de Berne - deep pink, med. size, excellent taste, fairly early.  (Plants for sale in Jardiland, Calais, too! 14/4/11 @ €2.50 each)
Noire de Crimée - brown/purple. big, knobbly.  Sweet.  Tended to crack - it likes hot weather & it didn't get it.  I would try again.
Barbaniaka - deep scarlet, very small "cherry". Superb flavour!  cropped well. early, in greenhouse AND out (by sunny wall) in not-good summer.  Healthy

I always grow Gardeners' Delight for it's wonderful taste & good growth, in & outside.  It tastes like Barbaniaka, very sweet and acid combined.
Marmande - not bad.
Green Zebra - better than shop, but not as good as I expected.
Black Russian - probably identical to Noire de Crimée.
Golden Sunrise:  sweet, flavour OK, but I like more acid, good grower.

When on holiday in S. Europe, if I find a market stall with odd garden tomatoes I try them & if good, save seeds.  It's worth growing a plant from them to see if they like English conditions - then  bag a flower and save seeds for next year!
