Induction Hob

Question is do stainless steel pans work on them?
I bought a tabletop induction hob(by mistake) as my cooker died on me. I tried my stellar stainless steel pans on the hob but can't get the pans to heat up. :'( :'( :'(

Yes they do...but..they need to be suitable sort of stainless steel pans.
If you go to shop..you see on packaging they've marked if it suitable for inductions...and you can use them then with any other type of cooker as well. Those spesific type of pans have some sort of metal layer 'sandwiched' into the bottom of the pan that will react/work with those sort of cookers. Unfortunately just 'normal' stainless steel doesn't work...I just cannot remember weather it was something to do with magnetic reaction..or something.. ::)
Im sure somebody clever will give you soon more info how it works..

Only if the base is magnetic.


"Induction hobs (cooktops) work well with any pans with a high ferrous metal content at the base. Cast iron pans and any black metal or iron pans will work on an induction hob. Stainless steel pans will often work on an induction hob provided the sole of the pan is a grade of stainless steel that is magnetic. If a magnet sticks well to the sole of the pan, it will work on an induction hob."

Just checked as I use Stellar 1000 on an induction hob and a fridge magnet sticks.

Fantastic idea.

Just checked my 15 year old stellar pans with a fridge magnet and it doesn't stick. So that might explain why my hob is not working ;D ;D.

Off to purchase some new pans.

I've got one of these table top induction hobs and it's brilliant,really fast but it is "selective"re pans I have a couple of Le Crueset which don't work and a wok.
I've got a magnetic trivet which is a good indicator as to what works
