Hello
Yes we will be going on Saturday. Listened to Phil on Solent last Sat, good broadcast only thing not mentioned was the entrance fee!!! Sure that won't put people off though  ;)

Phil,

It says there will be new stocks on the Sunday - is this definately true? Sunday is much better for me but I don't want to miss out!!

Thanks,

piglit

Sorry about not mentioning the entrance fee but all the details were read out By Pippa from her script; it's £2 in case you're of a nervous disposition.

There is definitely fresh stock for Sunday - plus the remains are enough to fill 2 garden centres for the month of Feb - so we don't tend to run out!!! - except  Sarpo Mira - I am only expecting (fingers still crossed) ~450 from T&M - they have promised me (but haven't yet delivered) 10 times that of S Axona

I should be going to Ryton on Saturday- even that is quite a long way from north west wales....

By the way - although the Sarpo (axona, mira and tominia) ones last year were blight free and slug free, they weren't as tasty as I expected.

MV,

I agree with you on taste - but people who have some left say that it improves with keeping

Guess I'll have to try them again then  ;D

I'm hoping to get to Royton on sunday - not a HDRA member as yet.

Got a lot of seed spuds already, but hoping to pick up a few extras to try.
Lottie-less until I can afford a house with it's own garden.

Moggle - there are lots of varieties that I can't find in T&M's potato catalogue, so there should be a few ones for you to try at 15p a tuber. If you are lucky, you could get 370lb out of one seed spud.

Having ordered Sarpo seed(Axona & Mira), I hope the taste is better than the above reports.

For the first time in 26 yrs., I suffered  in 2004 from blight, so bought the above seed. It was a damp/humid season.

Always grown maincrop Desiree w/o probs. for flavour - don't do chips.

Will our climate change influence what we grow?

Hubby reckons that next year, we stay Fri & Sat nights near Coventry so we can do both potato days (free entry for HDRA members). He reckons we should go to the talks. Even thinking of going to events there later in the year (apple day could be a favourite).

Some of the talks were very good. My favourite had to be a cooking demo for a sort of potato bread/cake. I'll copy the recipe later.

I also couldn't resist buying some salad blue to make shepherds pie for some friends this coming weekend. I'll serve it without comment and see who says something first about the blue mash.

Ryton is now charging members to attend on Sunday!

:o , looks like will just do the Saturday then (probably, though the HDRA is a worthy cause).
