my gooseberry bush already has leaves starting to come out. if there is frost will it kill the leaves?

I don't think so (well I've never had problems with that anyway, though I'm in the SE so don't see many hard frosts).  But frost might damage the flowers and hence the crop, so I do cover with fleece if a frost is forecast and the flowers have opened.
