Bonfire Question

Bonfires are allowed on our site, as long as plot holders are "considerate" and as long as the fires are not left unattended. We are a relatively small site, if our site rep isn't working his plot there is no official presence to discuss matters with.

Last Sunday some plotholders next to me were having a really smokey bonfire; which they left still smoking at lunchtime. I have a formal and polite, but not particularly cordial, relationship with these people.

By dusk, when I was leaving, it was still unattended, and still smoking.

Should I

a) have left it, as none of my business
b) walked onto their plot and put it out
c) something else?

I would have chucked water over and played 'innocent' afterwards...after all smoking fire is not only nuisance for you or other allotmenteers..but if there is houses nearby..stinking smoke is not nice if it keeps drifting on their gardens or gets inside. We live next to our lottie and smoke has been trouble in past.
Really you should not go to anybody's plot uninvited..but neither they should leave open fire unattended. Suppose  if your plots are 'open plan' so you don't have climb over fence, quick visit is easily done.
If you wanted be unneighbourly, you could call some firefighters to put it down..and let your neighbour to deal with 'bill' and other problems afterwards..
We try to keep bonfires to late afternoons/evenings..so anybody's hanging laundry on nearby houses is not effected...and big smokey ones are no-no..either they have to master 'slow smouldering, barely a sign of smoke' type of 'fire' or proper brightly burning bonfire where the smoking is at its minimum. If our rule is not followed up..they have to face me or the secretary paying a visit.. ;) ;D
Next time you see your site rep..ask the same question and see what he prefers to happen if it repeats again...and have it in writing too on noticeboard for everybody to see... ;)

I would put it out with soil as water would make it smoke more , then told them you had no choice in the matter as neighbours were complaining that they were going to call the firebrigade.    ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

Yep i would have doused it and pleaded ignorance.  Wasnt me, cant prove a thing.
Nothing is ever as it seems. With appropriate equations I can prove this.
