I was looking at getting some enviromesh to cover brassicas.  We do reasonably well some years but often loose a lot of the crop to starving pidgeons and ravenous caterpillars it just depends on the weather conditions.

Having a look round the local market farmer uses a mesh to grow his caulies etc. and they do very well.

Do any of you have advise for me regarding using  enviromesh?

We have been using it for years and its marvellous.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

If it's just for brassica protection, you don't necessarily need to cover with Enviromesh.
Last year I used butterfly netting which just keeps out the cabbage white fly.

Pescador

I use butterfly netting, keeps off cabbage white and pigeons, which is all I need. It's a lot cheaper than enviromesh!!

Try and get small mesh though,  I've actually stood and watched a cabbage white butterfly practically tearing its wings off trying to get through the mesh I had over my brassicas.   >:(   Cheers,     Tony.

we've never used enviromesh but would swear by wondermesh (http://www.wondermesh.co.uk/) you may be able to find a local garden centre which sells it on the roll but from the website you buy a pack 3.25m x 5m which gives plenty of coverage. The results of the veg grown under the mesh are impressive too, the mesh keeps well so can be used year after year :)
