All that talk of bread, I dug into the back of the cupboard and found a tiny bit of strong white flour hooray!  Not enough for the focaccia though so looking through my bread book found this - thought I'd try it.

This is for bread machine...

12 fl oz milk
3 tbsp veg oil
1.5 tsp sugar
1.5 tsp salt (I didn't use as much as this)
2 cloves crushed garlic
12oz bread flour
4.5oz wholewheat flour (I used less white and mixed more malted bread flour)
2.5tsp yeast (I used one sachet fastaction)
6tbsp butter
3 pressed garlic cloves
1/4tsp dried sage
1/4tsp dried rosemary
3/4tsp dried basil (I didn't have these in so I used basil and oregano)

Put first 8 ingrediants in breadmaker in the order you would usually for your machine.  Set for dough stage. Press GO!

Just before dough is ready melt the butter and saute the garlic and herbs.  Don't let the garlic burn or it'll taste bitter.

Oil baking dish.

Punchdown dough roll into thick log and cut into 30-36 pieces (mine was only about 25 pieces I think)
Roll pieces into ballish shapes dip in butter and layer in baking tin.  Leave a little gap for rising room, then layer above like bricks placing the next layer in the gaps.  Drizzle remaining butter over the top.

Cover loosly and leave in warm place to rise. to double (30mins ish).

Cook in 180C/Gas4.

Serve hot.

Usually baked in a tube tin 10inches but I did mine in a caserole dish.  It was yum!

10 mins after it came out of oven....

Looks great.  Home made bread is worse than chocolate for me, can eat a whole loaf, whilst warm, in one sitting!!!!

p.s.  Why the monkey?

cookie

good bread needs butter, sorry, can't be doing with all these funny spreads!!!!

How long do you cook for it? (Or did I miss that?) Will give it a try when I've got enough time one evening!
gone to pot :D

Oops didn't put it.  I dunno.  I'm not good with times - till it's done I'd say!

EJ - Monkey, no idea.

Cookie - I prefer butter too, and I reckon a little butter is better for you than a lot of marg.

aquilegia

well I made it and it was absolutely delicious!

I used fresh sage and rosemary (cos that's what I had!) but probably put too much herbs in!

there are two pieces left to have with dinner tonight - we just couldn't eat anymore!
gone to pot :D
