Went away for a few days and it is now all yellow, so it has to go.  But what should I put in next?  They have harboured a few weeds so I want to put in spuds next year to clean it up.  So though I have some spare tomato plants do not want to put them there.

I have lots of brassica seedlings wanting space, but obviously they cannot go there.

In typically maverick style, I replaced mine with cauliflower... which are actually growing well for the first time ever!!! and lettuces... I did dig in a little manure and some fertilizer pellets before planting.
What about some late beetroot? Or salad stuff?
2012 - Snow in February, non-stop rain till July. Blight and rot are rife. Thieving voles cause strife. But first runner beans and lots of greens. Follow an English allotment in urban France: http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com

I have given up on Cauliflower.  I had some lovely ones a couple of years ago but it was a lot of work and there was a glut somewhere and they were really cheap to buy at the time.  I suppose I might risk putting in winter cabbage.  It is a bit weedy for anything with small seeds.

I'm putting beans in that space now. No particular reason, just my own rotation plan. They will cope okay with a patch which keeps sprouting weeds. As will squash plants if you have any. I would have thought the tomatoes would cope okay as well?

I put carrots and florence fennel in to autumn and beans will be next after a winter rest

Carrots would be my choice too
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

I have lots of straw so anything I can mulch up would be best.

artichoke

I am putting leeks in at the moment....but in my own cabbage patch I have planted the last of the potatoes, a couple of weeks ago.

This year three weeks ago I lifted the last PSB and then next day put in my Desirees using the 'digging-whilst-planting-whilst-manuring' technique. The Desirees are doing fine, better than my back.
Next year the PSB plot will be for maincrop carrots.

Mine will be replaced by the squashes when I get to around to them

This year mine have squash, tomatoes and dahlias. Should get leeks over winter or maybe onions.
