Desiree Potato Desease.?

After you folks explained about the scab and yes im still here after eating plenty of them,we have know dug up the Desiree row and found scab+ 100,s of small white spots/pimples covering the surface,again we dont know this desease but am assuming its ok to just skin and eat as before...............

................but what is it please....????

THe white spots/pimple thingies are what happens when a potato is grown in too wet conditions., or with some waterlogging underneath (prolly better to say that).. You nearly always find it on pot grown spuds cos if you don't then the rest of the soil was likely to be too dry.... this year we've been seeing it on ground grown spuds everywhere rather than just in really clayey soils.... we used to get it on our outdoors when I was a nipper (and we had clay soil) and I've always seen it on pot-grown earlies, but this year I've been seeing it on ground growns even on my fairly well drained (though heavily manured) soil...

Yes they're fine to cook and eat once they've been peeled.  Mine are just the same!

Much appreciated,its good to know that wet seasonal conditions have dictated how they have grown outdoors and that at least the crop can be eaten.
