Hi folks
just trying to get to grips with technology here.  Am trying to post a photo in the gallery and have forgotten how I did it last summer!

Thanks EJ - did you see the photo on the page or did you have to click on the URL?  I'm not sure I've got this right yet!

Hello again!

No - you clicked on the URL - go down to the bottom one.

And - once again - for everyone - LOOK at what you've done &, if it's not what you want, 'delete' or 'modify'??

Sorry, just getting the red cross to show the image is not showing!

Palustris, the images were there earlier. Not sure what has happened ?

Seems like the link to the image has been shut down

Just trying imageshack - did it work?

Yes!

Lovely - as before - but, as I said below - 30 seconds to download, by which time I was just going elsewhere!

And all this could be done within your first post. Look, modify or delete?

No criticism - just, hopefully, a pointer for others.

If you really want to do a buster, do it as a URL - I think??

lovely garden autumn and great pic

Comments noted tim.  Clearly not worth the bother then if it takes you such a long time to see the photo.  Still a bit confused though because I have seen much larger photos than mine in the gallery and they don't take my computer 30 seconds to download.  Ah well.  Won't trouble you again. Must be so nice to be au fait with all the jargon - not sure what you mean by doing a buster and still trying to sort out the difference between img and URL but there you go.

Hi autumn leaf,
the reason the images don't take very long to load is they are very compressed .jpg images. Most photo software will allow you to reduce the size of a photo by compressing the image. If you go too far you will lose quality. The large images I have been posting are only about 100kb's in size due to compression. Resolution is also a factor, lower resolution enables smaller file size. Next time you try and save a image  see if you can alter the .jpg compression value.( probably getting a little technical for some now.)
Just had a little play earlier, to see if this might help some people get there images on this site. Does it make sense ?
Will try and do something similar for compressing photo's (as long as you have photoshop or paint shop pro)

in case anyone was interested in compressing .jpg files .

Dear Autumn Leaf - as soon as I got to bed last night, I just knew someone would take um. Too late. I was trying to make 2 general points. I'm sorry I used your slot to do it.

1. It's not that any one picture is worthless - rather that the page took me 1min 28sec to open this morning & some, with a series of large photos, can take minutes. And one can't start to reply till they have all downloaded.

2. And it seemed helpful to suggest that offerings are refined by 'modify' or 'delete' before 'saving', as I did elsewhere, so that a. one's agonies need not be exposed to others & b. so that space, & scroll time, is minimised.

3. A separate thought is that, in the Competition, the larger the photo, the better the sell. So I was thinking that there might be a max size imposed.

Buster was a silly term for a really special one.

It's some time now since I last blotted my copybook - I apologise. = best wishes, Tim

Hi tim - no need to apologise, battling with technology doesn't come easily to me and obviously brings out my dark side :)

I have a better idea now of what to do and what to check thanks to the advice from you all. Now, where did I put that camera!
