A slight change of direction,  I've just ordered a Wasabi plant  :icon_cheers:
I had one from http://www.poyntzfieldherbs.co.uk/ last time, they have lots of lovely things. But this time ordered from Wasabi company.
I'll still keep an eye out for some seeds though.

Ah? Wasabi company....! I didn't know they did plants!!!!!?  I though they only supplied the 'fresh end product'. Or it might be thinking of different company...

Good to know...I SHALL remember that for future reference... :glasses9:

Sounds awfully like my "Couldn't afford not to have it" justification speech - used frequently to Mrs K !!

Not weak, think of it as a gardening decisive decision!

Sounds awfully posh...'spitting'...just trying to say it loud..nope, tongue gets into twist with that.. :drunken_smilie:
I'll borrow what OH says when he want to buy yet another golf club...'you only live once'....

It is here!  :toothy10: And what a nice little plant it is...planted in tiny 1.5" pot, came packed in VERY well padded box with instruction how to grow on, all very clear :glasses9:
They mention that the wasabi company owns British record of heaviest single rhizome at 377g....and if anybody can beat that they would love to hear about it and publicise the winner.
Challenge in on!  :tongue3: :icon_cheers: :angel11:

Jayb

Lol, you go for it  :icon_cheers:

I meant to post too, what a lovely little plant when it arrived, in it's own pot with a hessian type wrapping. Beautifully packed in a designed for purpose little box well padded and secure. Top marks for appearance, speed and health of plant. Great growing instructions too. It would make a lovely gift!

My little plant has been growing great guns out in the polytunnel and it had one little flower stalk which was a bonus as although small the flowers are pretty. It looks to have set a few pods and I'm wondering if Wasabi seeds are tiny as the pods are really quite small, or perhaps these don't have seeds inside the pods?

My plant has been living outside for 3 weeks now...though it is living in kind of cage with builders netting over it for shade and protection....and it is in quite large container...it has grown lots since I received it :drunken_smilie:
No flower buds here that I can see of.
I'm thinking of moving the planter into GH for a while...the weather is so cold and windy and the weathercast is not promising any better neither....better be safe than sorry.

It is quite possible that there is no seeds inside the early pods...maybe the flowers were stimulated enough for making pods but no proper fertilization has taken place...?
The seeds that I bought last year were slightly smaller than 'general' brassica seeds...saying that, I don't know if they were true wasabi seeds, sellers claimed they were... :icon_scratch: :dontknow:

Jayb

Oh these would definitely be tiny brassica size seeds that is if there are any in the pods!

Have you had a nibble on a leaf yet?

No not yet....actually the thought didn't even enter my mind, but thank you for 'reminder' :icon_cheers:
It will have to be teeny weeny nibble though....I don't dare to reduce any part of my plant quite yet. It is growing VERY strongly and I'm determined to try to grow as big as possible this year. I've even used pond mud and growing medium from pond plant...yes, emptied plant from its pot to get all that lovely smelly stuff and mixed it with loads of grit, compost and fertilizer to make super duper 'soil' for my baby wasabi  :sunny:...well, not so baby anymore :toothy10:

Jayb

 :icon_cheers:
Well you are certainly going for it   :blob7: Good luck  :toothy10:

I'm afraid my poor wasabi is getting much more basic treatment here, I must try harder.

I should have added 'to try to grow IT...
Given chance...I will grow 'as big as possible' without much effort..certainly won't need pond mud for my waist line.. :drunken_smilie: :glasses9:

Jayb

Lol, no don't go rubbing on pond mud, it's stinky stuff!

Wasabi seed pods, some of them do look a little bumpy.
