My allotment helper Manuel has done such a brilliant job of clearing the areas of my plot that I've never got round to before, that I have more than enough space for all the plants I've grown. I don't want his efforts to have been wasted so I'm wondering what I could still sow now to get a harvest before winter, and that isn't too demanding given it's soil that's had nothing but weeds/grass in for the last few years.

Lettuce, leaf beet, any of the leaves you can grow like bull's blood beet or the oriental mustard leaves?

Digeroo

I would suggest anything big ie not carrots.  Presume if it was overgrown there will be a lot of weed seeds, so anything you can mulch easily.  Beans, brassicas, courgettes.

Beetroot, autumn/winter lettuce.  I would also consider spring cabbages next month if you think the ground is up to it (plenty of time to give it a top feed)

Just started in modules... turnips, 2 types, beetroot, spring onions, 3 types of lettuce, white pattypan squash, swede, chard, plus more dwarf french beans and dwarf borlottis.  These are all to fill in spaces as the other crops come out  :happy7:

I've no excuse then! Thanks everyone.

I've just popped in a few more french beans in the onion bed - soon to be pulled up and ready for next crop :blob7:
