Hi Jim

I don't have a com-bi boiler, which i assume is going in your house.  However, i think i would like the following

thermostats on each radiator to control the heat in each room.

A timer that allows the heating to go on and off at different times. during the week  We both work so Monday to Friday the heating comes on just before we get up and goes off about 7 in the morning.  Saturdays and Sundays we get up later and have the heating on longer.

On another side i would suggest
getting used to closing doors.
don't fiddle with the the settings every 5 minutes, let it settle.
get familiar with the heating instruction book
Sit back and relax.

I am sure others will have much better suggestions, just remember that central heating is to be enjoyed not endured,

regards

Bill

Good advice.  We don't have gas so our CH is oil fired.   We have thermostats on all of our radiators and that means bedrooms can be kept cooler than say the bathroom which has a towel radiator.   Nice to have warm towels and warm air when you step out of the shower.  The kitchen is kept cooler cos that's where we get busy and also do the cookin,g which adds its own heat.

Downstairs we don't have any interior doors except to the loo but we use draught excluder "sausages" on the outside doors to cut draughts and close the window shutters when it's really cold.   We also have rugs handy on the sofas which are a boon in winter and mean we don't have to have the radiators on full blast.   Better for fuel bills and house plants too.

thanks   Bill door and Obbelix for your advise on CH I am also fitting double glazing back and front so this should help with the running costs.
