I use Windows Live Mail for my email programme but all of a sudden it has
stopped sending my emails out.  I can receive emails, but the ones I send just
disappear.  They are not in my Outbox but they do appear in my Sent Items.

I thought it was strange that people who usually reply straight away, were not.

I've tried closing down the pc, disconnecting the modem, reconnecting it and
re-starting the pc but it's still the same.

I've sent emails to myself - they don't arrive.
I've looked at the mail on the server and they are not there either.
They are not in drafts or spam,

Any ideas anyone....please.....it's so annoying not being able to send.

How long has this been going on Betty?  It may be just a very temporary thing.
When you say Windows Live mail - do you mean the new hotmail thing that you access via a browser or the app which is on your PC?

Since yesterday Nick.  No, it's not hotmail, it's a programme on my PC,

Could be getting blocked.
If they are blocked for some reason, you should get an e-mail back saying so, but these may get dumped in your spam so check your spam folder to see if there are any such messages.

No, haven't had an email saying they are blocked.  I've checked spam and they are not there.

It's sad really, but I rely on emails SO much!

Can you log onto the server and send e-mails from there, bypassing the Windows Live Mail?

Thanks for that Nick.  I am with Virgin (blueyonder.co.uk) and I when
I use my son's laptop I am able to access my emails through the Virgin website.

I sent myself an email from the server, and it did come to my Windows Live Mail
account, but if I send myself one from the Live Mail it just disappears.  There must
be at least 20 of my emails to people floating around somewhere.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, I can do that Chrispy.  I sent myself one and it did come to Live Mail.

Do a google search 'my ip'
Note down  your public IP address
Unplug your modem for 5 minutes, then try again and see if your IP address has changed, and see if it solves the problem.

Let us know what your IP number is, I will try and see if I can see if it is being blocked or not.

I did that Chrispy, and the IP number stayed the same.
Do you want me to put my IP number on here?

Yes, let me know what the number is.
Will be worth leaving the modem off all night, see if it will pick up a different number.

I will leave the modem off as you suggest.

I think mine is not happy either.  I cannot send emails but I can receive them and I also do not seem to be able to see my sent items.

I think they are having a problem.  I will try again tomorrow and see if things are back to normal.

Yahoo is working ok.  Having got locked out of my emails because someone broke in, I know how annoying it is now to be able to use it, so I have several totally different accounts.

Chrispy

I have checked out your IP number but could not find anything that says it has a block.
As Digeroo is also having a problem then it is probably a general problem with their servers, could just be overloaded because there is mega amount of spam going around at the moment.

They do have a status check page at https://my.virginmedia.com/faults/service-status so check that out with your number/post code.

Thanks for your help Chrispy.

I checked on the Virgin link and it says that there are problems with
receiving email and it should be fixed by today.

Before I realised there was a problem I had sent quite a lot of emails out, do
you think these will be delivered once Virgin has sorted it?

Digeroo, sorry you are having problems too.  It is so frustrating, isn't it.

Still not working this morning. It is saving messages as drafts rather than sending. But I cannot open the drafts folder either.  Maybe when they will have to be sent again later.

I have a yahoo account as well so when there are problems I can switch.

Someone broke into my Hotmail account last year and I was shut out for sometime, and had to prove who I was.  Even my secret information had been changed and I had to provide all sorts of info to get control of my account again.  That was very frustrating.

No idea, if I had to take a guess then I would say they are probably lost, but only time will tell.

I've been on the phone to a Virgin engineer who told me that there
is a fault and it will be sorted today.

I will let you know when that happens.

Glad you have a solution!  Some mail may well be delivered as they will often attempt delivery for several days but it just depends on the nature of the problem their end.
