Now that cutless isn't available to use on privet hedges is there an alternative

No idea what "cutless" is if it is not a type of sword.  Also I have no idea why it is no longer available if it is not a type of sword

Suggest you use a hedge trimmer.

This was distributed by Scotts (Formerly ICI Plant Protection) and in my experience, about the slowest selling line in their range!.
